COURSE STRUCTURE
COURSE OBJECTIVE
- Principles of endodontic diagnosis, including case selection and grading of case difficulty
- Science and protocols of chemo-mechanical preparation
- Hand-file design and their clinical influence
- Rotary system selection and their clinical influence
- Science and protocols of obturation
- The role of endodontic restoration
TOPIC SCHEDULE
Endodontic Investigation and diagnostic principles
- A systematic and comprehensive protocol in clinical assessment
- Grading of case difficulty, when to proceed and when to refer
- Anticipation of prognosis and communicational skills
Extirpation and access design
- Variants in access design as according to the tooth type
- Scientific method of reproducibility in pain relieving
- Tricks in finding canals
Chemo-mechanical preparation
- Understanding the properties of various hand files, what they are designed for, and how to use them properly
- Understanding the different rotary systems, the correct techniques/motions that needed to be followed in order to achieve a predictable clinical outcome, and how to avoid complications such as file separation
- How to select the appropriate system according to different clinical indications
Obturation
- Understanding the different obturation techniques present today Prognosis
- Learning the when & why of obturation techniques
Prognosis
- Understanding how pre/peri/post- operative factors influence survival and success
Endodontic restoration
- Understanding what & how different factors of the restoration can influence survival and success
WHAT YOU CAN BE EXPECTED TO DO AFTER THE COURSE
- Management of dentition as according to the tooth type
- Management of the moderately calcified/curved canal
- Understanding of when and where to use different hand/engine driven files
- Basic introductory techniques for conservative ledge/broken file bypass and retreatment

Dr Thomas Kim
BBDSc (Hons), MRACDS (PDS), FIADFE, PG student of MSc (Endo) General/visiting dentist for endodontics Clinical educator at USyd for DMD endodontics
Dr Thomas Kim graduated from the University of Queensland and has worked in various practices across Brisbane and Sydney as a general dentist and visiting dentist performing endodontic treatment. Dr Kim has always had a strong passion for further studies and education, hence continuing to progress his knowledge in endodontics. He also enjoys providing supervision and mentorship of DMD students at the University of Sydney for endodontic education. Dr Kim served as a past committee member in ASEQ prior to his move to Sydney.
